Cheap and Easy Way to Clean Makeup Brushes

Truth be told I probably don’t clean my brushes as often as I should. It always seems like a daunting task, but it has to be done.

I use Dr. Bronner’s pure-castile liquid soap to wash my beauty blender and brushes. I find it works well and is super affordable. Yesterday I picked up a silicone brush mat to see if that worked well in conjunction with the soap.

I wet the brush and applied a small amount of soap directly to the bristles. I swirled the brush in my hand for a few seconds then went to town on the brush mat. It was a bit of a process, with lots of rinsing in between, but TRUE STORY, my brushes have never looked this clean.

I’d recommend giving Dr. Bronners and a silicone brush mat a whirl if you haven’t already!

Silicone Mat Cost: $5 – $15
Where to find: amazon.com | sephora.com

Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Soap Cost: $9
Where to find: amazon.com and in store at Target
Lasting Power: I have had the bottle for several months

    • Hi Danielle! I use a variety of brow products. Sometimes I use a small angled brush and a light brown UD shadow. I also really like the it cosmetics brow power universal pencil, and for lazy days I use the MAC Pro Longwear Brow Set 🙂

  1. Great post! I love Dr. Bronners soap, the eucalyptus one is my favorite. I never thought to use it on my makeup brushes though.

  2. I loathe washing my make-up brushes, I honestly feel you girl 😅… Doesn’t it feel like such a drag haha! I ended up buying this brush egg from Amazon which made things a tad easier though! I think it’s a bit like the silicone mat you’re using. I swear automated brush washing machines need to be readily available 😅 xx
